6th Grade Transition (Fall, Spring) - Help answer parents’ questions about transitioning to middle school and help the PTA find ways to help ease this transition for students and families.
8th Grade Promotion (All Year) - Help plan and decorate/set-up for the 8th Grade Promotion ceremony & associated events such as luncheons, dances, or parties. This has traditionally included the 8th Grade Winter Dance and Promotion Luncheon.
Book Fair (TBD) - Help staff and/or help plan and coordinate the annual book fair (online and/or in-person).
Community Service/Outreach (TBD) - Help plan and coordinate activities that allow SPMS students to engage with the greater South Pasadena community. The focus is on promoting connection through volunteerism.
Father's Follies (Feb/Mar) - We hope to bring back this beloved pre-pandemic tradition! We will need help with planning, talent recruitment, publicity, logistics, and hospitality for this hilarious variety show fundraiser. Even if you aren't able to help too much, check this off if you have experience with this event and could provide guidance.
Food/Hospitality Donations (All School Year) - Donating/arranging/preparing food for PTA events such as PTA coffees, PTA meetings, and Staff Appreciation events.
General Help/One-Off Tasks (All School Year) - Help with tasks such as moving, sorting, and distributing materials (for example).
Grant Writing (All School Year) - Funds are being cut from our schools. We can access financial assistance through companies and foundations, but we need people who know how to write the grants. Please help.
Graphic Design (All School Year) - Logo, flyer, spirit wear, and/or poster design for PTA or Boosters Club events.
Legislation (All Year) - Stay updated on legislation affecting our school and disseminate information via e-blast and/or at meetings
Library/Media Center Support (All School Year) - Extend the reach of limited staff by helping in the library/media center during the school day.
Lost & Found (As Needed) - Organize lost items and attempt to return items to owners where possible. Organize donation of items.
Mental Health Week (October) - Help plan and/or implement this week of hands-on activities designed to help our young people and destigmatize mental health. (Similar to Red Ribbon Week)
Office/Administrative Support (All School Year) - Help office staff and/or teachers with tasks such as copying and preparing paperwork.
Parent Education (TBD) - SPMS parent education offerings may include documentary screenings and presentations on relevant adolescent subjects such as mental health, social media and bullying. Seeking parent professionals to help plan and organize parent education programs and/or to speak as panel experts for post-screening discussion.
PE Uniforms & Locks Distribution (Aug) - Help distribute PE uniforms & locks.
Programs Support (TBD) - Work with our VP of Programs to help envision, plan and organize PTA programs for students and parents. Programs may include assemblies, parent education programs, and student enrichment and service programs.
Reflections & Art (Fall, as needed) - Reflections is an art contest sponsored by the National PTA. Volunteers solicit, judge, and present/display submissions in visual art, photography, music composition, dance choreography, film, and literature. If you are interested in supporting other art-related needs at SPMS, please also check this option.
Social Media (All School Year) - Create social media posts (Instagram and Facebook) with PTA input and manage social media accounts. We are open to MS or HS students (with parental guidance) taking on this role for community service hours.
Staff Appreciation (May and All School Year) - Plan Staff Appreciation Week events and activities (early May) as well as a few additional special meals or treats during the year.
Tech Support (All School Year) - Provide technical support (e.g. computer hardware or software issues, audio/visual set-up, etc.) for parents, students, staff, and volunteers. (High Schoolers are welcome to sign up)
Traffic Control (as needed) - Help move vehicles along at drop off and pick-up, particularly at the beginning of the year.
Translators/Language Support (All School Year) - Provide support for non-English speaking families (including sign language). Your information will be provided to the SPMS administration, main office staff, teachers, and counselors.
Vision & Hearing Screening (TBD) - Help organize students on annual testing days.
Volunteer Coordination (All Year, as needed) - Work with the PTA to help recruit and organize volunteers as needed for various programs and tasks.
